About the texts

When the early English translations like the 1611 King James Version were translated, the translators used the Greek (New Testament) texts they had available. The group of New Testament texts they used are called the Textus Receptus (or TR). Since then many other texts have been found.  These newly discovered texts are much older and closer in time to the original books of the Bible. Almost all scholars regard these older texts as more accurate than the younger texts from which translations like the KJV were translated.  There are, however, some pastors and public speakers who disagree.  Here are a couple videos reflecting the minority view which prefers the TR over the older texts.

This video stars Kent Hovind who was best known for his presentations refuting evolution.  Here he talks about the superiority of the TR.

I have no idea who this gentleman is. I’ve included his video because it reflects the opinions of laity who prefer the TR over the older texts.

I also have two mp3 files of Chuck Smith’s defence of the TR in my “Resources” box.  They are quite lengthy recordings (each about 45 min. long).  It’s a great explanation of this position.
